Pinnawela

The Department of National Zoological Garden has set up an Orphanage for Baby Elephants at Pinnawela, which is about 102Km from Kandalama. The Orphanage was established to feed, nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers or fallen into pits during the drought period.
2 ½ hours from Kandalama

  1. Hi
    Tks for the post guys

I have been to this place and make sure you go there before elephants are taken for their daily bath. At the time when I was in, it was at around 10-12 am in the morning. They also feed the baby jumbos at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. These times are not to be missed if you are planning to visit Pinnawela. If you love elephants and want to feel them. This is the place and make sure you don’t miss them. Pls get the hotel staff to double check on the time so that you will have the most of it. It was not very far from Heritance Kandalama, but you may have to allocate a good half day at this place.

    Have a good time

    Don.
